OSCE THEORY PROGRAMME
What this programme is
Three live sessions of two hours, on consecutive Wednesdays. Six hours of theory in total, covering the clinical reasoning that sits underneath all thirty-nine stations in the OSCE library.
This is not a procedure course. You already know how to nurse. What the OSCE assesses is whether you can nurse the Australian way — reasoning out loud, within Australian scope, against the Registered Nurse Standards for Practice at the level of a nurse entering the profession. That is a different skill from the one most internationally qualified nurses arrive with, and it is the skill this programme builds.
How the three weeks are structured
- Week 1 — Foundations. Scope of practice, delegation and accountability, the ten behaviours present in every station, communication and consent, documentation and ISOBAR handover. Six stations sit here.
- Week 2 — Assess, interpret, escalate. Measurement you can defend, structured assessment and validated risk tools, the nursing care plan, track-and-trigger escalation, and basic life support. Thirteen stations sit here — the largest family in the exam.
- Week 3 — Intervene safely. Twenty stations built on two principles: medication safety across every route, and aseptic non-touch technique. Plus safe movement and closing the episode of care.
What's included
- Three live two-hour facilitated sessions
- Station video library covering all thirty-nine stations
- Fillable learner workbooks for each week, with model answers
- Scenario workbooks for live session preparation
- A running question board, with written answers to anything unresolved
- Unlimited laboratory repetition for hands-on skills practice
Who it's for
Internationally qualified registered nurses and midwives preparing for the OSCE stage of the NMBA Outcomes-Based Assessment pathway to AHPRA registration.
What you'll be able to do
Run the universal opening and closing sequence without thinking about it. Apply the NMBA decision-making framework aloud. Delegate correctly while retaining accountability. State reference ranges and escalation thresholds without looking them up. Convert assessment findings into a care plan with measurable goals. Escalate on your own authority. Identify key parts and key sites in a procedure you have never rehearsed.
